My son had refused to sit on his brand new stroller because it was black and red in colour. I had done all the research to buy the best stroller yet I failed in the first attempt to make him sit on it. Thankfully that stroller lasted us a long long time and then was handed down to his cousin who came 3 years after him. But as an eager parent one needs to know what all to look or in a stroller.

What to consider before buying a stroller?

  1. Age and Weight of Your Child

The first factor to consider is the age and weight of your child. If you're expecting a newborn (0-3 months), you'll need a pram or travel system with adequate support, such as:

  • A reclining seat for newborns
  • A adjustable canopy for protection from the sun and wind
  • A sturdy frame to ensure stability
  • Incase you are blessed with twins then you want two seperate strollers or twin or double stroller.
  1. Comfort and Support factors to Check

Child's comfort and support to little body is of utmost importance. Look for strollers with:

  • A cushioned seat and backrest for support
  • Adequate canopy protection from the sun and wind
  • Adjustable handlebars for comfortable pushing
  • Storage space under the seat to carry baby essentials in diaper bag.
  1. Budget

Set a budget before starting your search. Strollers range from ₹ 2000 to ₹50,000+, so it's essential to consider the following:

  • High-end models with advanced features may cost more. Brands like Bentley, Leclercbaby, Britax etc
  • Mid-range options offer good value for money
  • Affordable choices might compromise on quality and durability

"Baby gears are sold as per weight of the child and not the age! Keep that in mind before making the purchase."

  1. Safety Features

Safety should always be your top priority. Check if the stroller meets Indian safety standards (IS: 14222) and has features like:

  • Shock-absorbing wheels for smooth ride
  • Brakes for secure stopping
  • A sturdy frame to ensure stability
  • Wheels are the most important aspect of choosing the right stroller. Choose a stroller with larger, wider wheels (at least 6 inches in diameter) for improved stability and maneuverability. Consider a stroller with multiple wheels, such as three or four, which provide better stability and reduce the risk of tipping.
  1. Durability and Maintenance

A durable stroller is a long-term investment. Consider factors such as:

  • High-quality materials and construction
  • Easy maintenance and cleaning
  • Compatibility with car seats or other baby products
  1. Brand Reputation and Warranty

Choose a reputable brand that offers excellent customer support and warranty services. Look for brands with a strong track record of producing high-quality stroller.

"Wheel is the foundation to a good stroller, look for multiple, wider and larger wheels for stability and maneuverability!"

Read reviews from other parents who have used the stroller to gain insight into its performance, durability, and overall satisfaction. One can also consider pre owned strollers if they are in good conditions. By prioritizing your needs, researching reputable brands, and testing the product, you'll find the perfect stroller for your family
